STILL ALIVE!

i apologize for not having written in almost a month, but sincerely hope that the impending onslaught of photographs will make you forget my absence. october was very very busy for me! about a week after i returned from amsterdam, my parents came to visit!!! i can't even begin to describe how wonderful it was to see them. i thoroughly enjoyed touring them around and indulging in all the yummy restaurants that i hadn't been able to afford. ha. the weather was SO horrible the entire time they were here though, and it hasn't gotten nice since! it's basically freezing, on the verge of rain/snow everyday (sometimes raining/snowing all day), and completely miserable. every time the sun pokes through the clouds i become immediately ecstatic. this weather definitely makes me appreciate california.
anywho, here are tons of pictures, as promised:

dad, me and mama on the charles bridge
3/4 of the marlins in wenceclas square with the national museum behind us (miss you joey!)

dad and i waiting for the tram in the freezing cold.

THEN....... my next adventure began! Dane came to visit me for eleven days and we toured around Praha for 2 days and then headed to Munich, Salzburg, and Vienna! Munich was absolutely awesome (even though our train ride there took 10 hours instead of 5...but hey, when you're in good company, none of that matters!) We arrived in Munich on Sunday (Oct 25) and walked around and sampled some beer at the beer gardens. Maybe too much sampling, at least on my part. But i got a GREAT night of sleep and Dane and I went on a 3 hour free walking tour the next morning. It was really awesome. We learned so many things we wouldn't have ever known if we hadn't gone on the tour. It helped us appreciate the city a lot more.

The New Town Hall in Munich

New Town Hall again in Marianplatz

Dane with a coaster from the famous Hofbräuhaus coaster

me with my (first) liter of beer.
synagogue in Munich. really neat, made out of travertine, looks like the getty!

the glockenstein, europe's #2 overrated tourist attraction
(second only to prague's astronomical clock")
a pretty leaf dane stepped on in the english gardens
i'm fascinated with fall, clearly

yippie! the two of us wandering munich's gigantic park.

pretty!

the next day we decided to visit Dachau, the first Nazi concentration camp. It was super chilling and moving. Pictures don't really do any of it justice.
the small Jewish memorial put in place

"grave of thousands unknown" next to the crematorium, where many of the anonymous ashes were placed.

after Dachau, we took a train to Salzburg, Austria which surpassed all of our expectations with its charm and beauty.
church of salzburg with the moon (and venus dad? is that venus?)
one of the main squares in the city with the fortress illuminated and a man standing on a giant gold ball.

a huge outdoor chess set! the next day cute old Austrian men gathered here to play a rather heated game of afternoon chess.

pretty fountain with the fortress in the distance

we woke up to sunny blue skies and decided to go for a nice long walk along the hill top. absolutely gorgeous.
"The hills are alive with the sound of muuusic!" (where the original Von Trap family lived!)

overlooking the town

dane and a unicorn!

pretty river!
That afternoon the two of us took an afternoon train to Vienna where we met up with mama again and "cousin" Pam. It was pretty, but definitely not my favorite place I've visited. It was too big and spread out.

a pretty church and a pretty reflection
inside the really ornate and super impressive kunsthistorisches museum
we went to schonburn palace right before it closed and decided to go back the next day because it was so beautiful.
the city of vienna sets up chairs outside the opera and plays it outside for the public to enjoy. it was really awesome. dane and i watched for as long as we could handle the cold and then retreated to indulge in apple strudel and hot chocolate.

fall is AMAZING! i can't believe i've missed out on this my whole life!

back at the schonburn palace

leaves!

our only proper picture of the trip
looking down on the palace grounds

we returned to prague just in time for halloween! my roommates and i threw the most awesome halloween party prague has ever seen. dane and i dressed up as zombie santas, naturally.
the roommates
zombies!
dane was the only male party guest for quite a while, what a lucky man!

the end! i promise (kinda) that i will update more frequently! i am going to meet Dublin on Wednesday to meet Kiley! Horray!

ciao!
